Nuli Omer – Multi-disciplinary artist, lives and creates in Tel Aviv.
This eclectic grouping is comprised of works consisting of assemblage, painting and embroidery. These works touch on suggestive realties that evoke thought and feeling, with multi layered meanings, laced with humor, sarcasm and criticism.
Densely embroidered colorful birds are arduously hand-made and intermingled with loose birds created by daubs of paint and brush strokes. Associations are hybridized between femininity and religion, salaciousness and tenderness, and different materials and elements are also connected into one array.
The works are accompanied by fantastic and cynical titles as in The Sex and the human race ,In the name of gold and The Singles cry. The Singles cry, presents an apple tree next to the object of a woman's upper body, breasts covered with women's faces and birds erupting from the nipples – a parable of the unrequited joy of sex. In another work, a metal hammering is imprinted on a plate, and shows a clergyman preaching and instructing his students, the rim of the plate is decorated with animals copulating, which hints to the prohibitive and rigid nature of religion that leads naturally to hidden debauchery (salacity). In a self portrait, the artist is open-eyed and open mouthed, with butterflies floating around her.
In her singular, autodidactic language, Nuli unites and expresses different experiences, evokes questions, feelings and private moments, Things I felt.
